Have you ever really given it a thought? How are preschoolers nowadays learning how to read?
So much controversy have been spent knowing and proving which reading instruction work best or would qualify to be the best approach to teaching reading the most effective way.
Is it Phonetics or Whole Language?
Since the post war era debates have been continuously going on. We have already reached the Digital Age yet the issue still remains unsettled.
I have come to realize that whether you are in third or first world countries, reading problems remain the same. Poor performance of students in schools boils down to their poor reading comprehension skills. Every administration wonders and tries hard to find out and eliminate the culprit. no child left behind
It’s totally puzzling to know that after the US Federal Government has spent S4 Billion Dollars on Reading First which is part of the NO Child Left Behind Act, no difference in reading comprehension scores was seen among students who did not participate in the program. Institute of Education Science Director Russ Whitehurst said that the study focused on reading comprehension, rather than aspects of reading such as whether kids grasp phonics, because comprehension is the ultimate goal when teaching reading.
This only reflects that the Reading Lessons used still missed important aspects, essential tools and major components needed to synergistically develop a strong and effective reading foundation for young kids.
How many more billion dollars are needed to find those missing hidden links???
Believe it or not…any average preschool kid can be taught reading instantly!! You need not wait for two to three years before your very own child learns to read. Time is of the essence. We can’t stop it. We are now living in a fast- paced world yet Reading programs used in schools remained antiquated. Teaching reading is still delayed.
Whenever I tell my peers and those older than me that preschool reading lessons could be taught to a child instantly, they give me a real cold stare. We underestimate the capabilities of a young child to read thinking that their natural faculties are not yet prepared to do so.
The Synergy of Reading goes with the flow. It works hand in hand with what nature has given and is totally adapted to the kid’s present culture and learning styles. .. SO WHAT???
We can’t deny it. Our time was totally different from theirs. We can’t pin them down in a time that does not anymore exist. Media and technology nowadays had greater powers to persuade and capture the attention of kids as young as three years old. We need to be three steps ahead in making a child hook into reading since these giants leave no stones unturned.
Now, let me ask you, if you have a very important message needing immediate attention, would you opt for a telegram instead of sending it through a text message? Obviously at this point in time it is out of your choice. The world has become smaller and time is something we cannot control. Even food can now be prepared in seconds! Memories can even be captured and stored instantly.
With Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram etc. chatting, gift-giving , connecting, buying and bonding can already be done in just a matter of seconds.
